Forget the contemporary flotilla of “origin story” movies, this is the only one that matters. The Muppet Movie follows Kermit the Frog’s journey from lone troubadour plucking “The Rainbow Connection” on his banjo in a Florida swamp to head of a motley gang of Muppets en route to Hollywood and the big time, pursued along the way by Doc Hopper (Charles Durning), an unscrupulous entrepreneur who wants to make Kermit the face (and game) of his frog legs franchise.
