Blade Runner 2049

Ryan Gosling stars as K, a bioengineered human replicant employed in the terminal “retirement” of fellow replicants gone rogue, whose investigation into the circumstances around the death of a female replicant during childbirth—heretofore believed a biological impossibility—puts him on a path that leads him to a nascent replicant freedom movement and to Harrison Ford’s Deckard, protagonist of Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi neo-noir, to which Villeneuve’s visionary epic makes a worthy successor.

“Returning to the universe he helped create, Mead was personally contacted by Villeneuve to design elements for Blade Runner 2049. Mead expanded upon his original concepts, contributing to the film’s visual continuity and deepening its exploration of a dystopian future.” —Series curators William Corman and Elon Solo
