Seven Chances

Facing financial ruin, young broker Jimmie Shannon (Keaton) gets a glimmer of hope upon learning that his late grandfather has left him a seven-million-dollar legacy in his will—the only hitch being that he has to be married before 7pm on the eve of his 27th birthday in order to collect, which gives him all of a few hours to tie the knot. A banquet of balletic physical comedy and barmy behavior, memorably described by critic Dave Kehr as “a cubist comedy,” with its climactic scene of Buster struggling to outpace a mob of would-be brides and finally running downhill through an avalanche of bouncing boulders one of the Great Stone Face’s most iconic scenes.
